From a certain angle, Teen Spirit, the actor Max Minghella's debut feature film takes up the old narrative of the Cinderella story.
The interesting thing is that, by not going to obvious sentimentality, soon after it begins, the film reveals a complexity that turns the classic clichés of the famous fairy tale.
Pop music as a background
In one of the wise decisions of the film, the main character is embodied by the American actress and model Elle Fanning.
Set on the Isle of Wight- off the coast of England where Minghella's father grew up- the young performer takes on the role of Violet, a teenager who dreams of becoming a pop star and escaping the tedium of her domestic life.
"Elle and Violet lined up at the right time. There were wonderful parallels between her and her character that raised what was on the page", Minghella said about the actress, in addition to highlighting the brightness she acquired when singing: "We knew that she had an extraordinary voice that had not yet been explored, and that also surprised us".
Singing songs by Sigrid, Robyn, Ellie Goulding and more, Fanning's interpretation leads us to the wonderful land where it is possible to dream big and find one's own voice.
