Dominic West "It is very easy to think he is the villain"

The actor talks about his character in Colette

Villains in any movie always get the worst reactions from the audience, but for the actors they are the funniest characters to play because it is a much more complex job. Dominic West knows he could be singled out for his role in Colette, which is why he shares feelings about controversial Willy.

"He's potentially the villain of the film. He is the one she (Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette) must leave to become who she became," said the English actor.

But he deepens in her analysis and says: "Although, to be fair, he did her good when they were together and she wrote her best books with him. It is very easy to think that he is the villain and that is less interesting than thinking of an irresistible but evil person."

And he focuses on one aspect of human relations. "You have to try to understand why these two interesting people had that spark. What he could offer a genie like Colette," he said.

Colette: a woman who changed an era

The marriage between a writer (Dominic West) and a rural teacher Colette (Keira Knightley) changes dramatically when she becomes his ghostwriter. With immediate success, it will be she who seeks to reveal the truth and thus change the whole spirit of an era.
