Hilary Swank in a challenging and moving film

She will star in What They Had, directed by Elizabeth Chomko

"What They Had is about a family and about a woman over 40 who is discovering herself in a very mature way," says multi-award-winning Hilary Swank, star of the film directed by writer Elizabeth Chomko.

In the mouth of the actress, we can know a little more about the story: "There is a family crisis that serves as a starting point to see how she has been living her life."

Thus, Bridget (Swank) returns to her childhood home when her brother (Michael Shannon) asks for help against the resistance of their father (Robert Forster) to hospitalize their mother with Alzheimer (Blythe Danner).

 Chomko’s debut as director

But Swank also referred to Chomko as a newcomer to direction.

"In my experience, working with a writer-director can be intimidating, for a good reason. The words come from her marrow, but Elizabeth, on the contrary, believes that once you inhabit the character, you know it better," reveals one of Hollywood's most recognized actresses. And she finishes: "As a writer, she got to the bottom of the matter and as a director she saw it without being married to the words."
