What they had: a very personal film

A cineasta Elizabeth Chomko se inspirou na história de sua família

Writer Elizabeth Chomko’s debut in direction generates great expectations.

In Chomko’s new film, not only will the audience be able to appreciate her skill behind the cameras for the first time, but they will also see revealed aspects of her personal life.

It happens that Chomko was inspired by the story of her own family for the plot of What They Had, starring the two-time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank.

In a hard but very constructive process, Chomko's family had to deal with the grandmother's Alzheimer's, a loved family member, whose gradual loss of memory shocked the family and created all kinds of rethinking.

A family in crisis

In one of the best performances to be seen this year on the big screen, Hilary Swank is a woman whose life has lost a bit of direction, and who is forced to return to her childhood city.

Her mother’s recently diagnosed Alzheimer forces her to make difficult decisions, while the tensions between her father and her brother become more and more constant.

Swank's character acts as an involuntary referee in the conflicts, while the real underlying dilemmas come to the surface.
