Colette: the story of a woman at the forefront

A very special project for director Wash Westmoreland

From dull rural girl to break the paradigms of even the most modern women of the time.

That's how revolutionary was Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, the French artist whose artistic awakening and sexual liberation are recreated in the film Colette.

Fascinated and inspired by her figure, the filmmaker Wash Westmoreland conceived for years the making of this film that allows the audience to get closer to one of the most beloved and paradigmatic artists in France.

"Wash's attachment to Colette is huge," said Keira Knightley, who will star in the film. "His love for her is absolute, I think he has a personal connection, and that level of passion is rare in a director, or in anybody else actually."

Fearless of revealing aspects of her, at times scandalous, life through her fiction stories, Colette was always "very at the forefront", summarizes Westmoreland.

Creative and daring

In his most ambitious film to date, this British director decides to portray Colette's early years, in which she initially submits, but then fights to free herself from an authoritarian husband to find her own voice and artistic recognition.
