In the middle of the night, a woman turns on the light from her bed with resigned temper. In the background, a baby's cry explains the behavior this mother automated by repetition.
She is Marlo, played by Charlize Theron. The newborn cries in one scene, and then in another, and in another. The trailer dismantles the daily path Marlo goes through to fulfill the obligations of raising the baby and her other two children.
A mother of the 21st century
But one day someone knocks on the door. It's Tully (played by Mackenzie Davis), the nanny who comes to save her from overwhelm. The expression of Marlo in front of the stranger standing at her door evidences, at least, distrust.
Unconventional and very reflective, Tully comes to disrupt Marlo’s world immersed in solving the tasks of the house. Soon, they will forge a bond that no one expects, and will make them grow.
Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody (who had already worked with Theron on Young Adult), the cast also includes figures such as Ron Livingston and Mark Duplass.
