The inspiration behind Civil War

The movie of the year is soon to be released!

Civil War is set in the not-so-distant future where a civil war is about to break out in the United States. In this complex context, a group of journalists decides to travel to the capital to document the coming events, but their lives will be in danger as they get deeper into the American conflict.

The director of this superb thriller, Alex Garland, began writing this story in 2020, months after the pandemic began. Taking into consideration that special situation, he transferred some of the concerns of that historical moment to the film, especially the concept of the transformation of reality and the anxiety of an uncertain future.

Both the filmmaker and the film's protagonist, Kirsten Dunst, consider the film to be the lineage of many works of art that depict the consequences of a society torn apart, in which ordinary people suffer the most. It also portrays that anything can happen and change in too little time, just as happened a few years ago.

Garland hopes that viewers will watch the movie with an open mind, come out not feeling alienated, and perhaps consider analyzing their political situation. Civil War, with all its chaos and brutality, disintegration and division, questions where such thinking can lead. It is a startling, gripping, and ultimately terrifying vision to make a wake-up call to the audience.

The cast of this incredible story is made up of great talent including Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Civil War will hit theaters in Latin America in April.
