Blackberry tells the story of two entrepreneurs, the innovative Mike Lazaridis and the ruthless businessman Jim Balsillie, who joined forces in a venture that would become a global success. The device that one invented and the other sold,was an addictive mobile phone that changed the way the world worked, played, and communicated. However, just as BlackBerry became a hit, it began to lose its way amid competition from other smartphones, management indecision, and external distractions.
The film explores the real-life events surrounding the fall of the BlackBerry product. It is a story inspired by true events, specifically the incredible rise and catastrophic demise of the first smartphone.
Directed by Matt Johnson, Blackberry features an outstanding cast, including Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, Matt Johnson, and Martin Donovan. Actor Glenn Howerton faced a big challenge and had to use his creativity to pull off his characteras there was no opportunity to meet the real Jim Balsillie, who in addition, made few public appearances and gave no interviews.
