The Greatest of Cinema: Todd Haynes

Let's take a brief tour of the film's locations.

Todd Haynes was born on 2 January 1961 in Los Angeles, California. He always showed an interest in art, which is why he graduated from Brown University in 1985 with a degree in art and semiotics. Later, he moved to New York where he continued his studies and began making short films.

Let's take a look at his most critically acclaimed films:

Carol: an aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in New York in the 1950s. The film stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara (Lion; Side Effects; Don’t Worry He Won't Get Far On Foot) and received six Oscar nominations.

I'm Not There: the film is a great reflection on Bob Dylan’s life. The different facets of the artist's life and work are portrayed through six different characters.

Far from Heaven: set in the 1950s in Connecticut, Cathy Whitaker, a housewife, must deal with a marital crisis and growing racial tensions in the outside world.

Another of Todd Haynes' most promising projects is May December, which will hit theatres in Latin America next year. The film is set twenty years after the scandalous and sensationalist romance between Gracie Atherton-Yoo and Joe. The emotional stability of the complex couple will come under pressure when famous actress Elizabeth Berry joins the family to study them as part of her preparation for her next film.

May December is inspired by the dark beginnings of Gracie and Joe's relationship and features a great cast, including Julianne Moore (Still Alice; A Single Man) and Natalie Portman (Jackie).
