Jonah Hill: "Mid90's is my heart"

The artist debuts as director after a career of 15 years as an actor

The movie Mid90's is a moving portrait of a decade without mobile phones where the teenage universe was often reduced to spending time with friends on the street.

"I've wanted to write and direct a film all my life and after 15 years as an actor I think I went to the best film school in the world, I've had the best teachers", says Jonah Hill about his first time behind the cameras.

On this point he explains: "I feel you have only one shot for your first film. When reviewing the first opera of my favorite directors the common point was that they had worked from the heart and this movie is my heart."

A time travel

The story focuses on a 13-year-old lonely boy (Sunny Suljic), a skateboarding enthusiast who keeps grounded thanks to some new skateboarder friends at a time that coincided with the newcomer director’s adolescence.

Hill also shares his passion for skateboarding with the protagonists of the film, although the actor made clear that, in his case, he was always 100% dedicated and 14% skilled.

With a cast consisting of figures like Katherine Waterston and Lucas Hedges, it is worth delving into this universe with subtle moments that speak of the journey from childhood to adolescence.
