On the Basis of Sex: the true story of a heroine

In her film, director Mimi Leder allows us to see the human side of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

When talking about strong and inspiring women, one of the names that top the list is Ruth Bader Ginsburg, member of the Supreme Court of the United States.

A prestigious magistrate, 85 years old and still active, who has broken with the paradigms of her time due to her fight against gender inequality.

Such is the importance of her figure among the most progressive wing of the US, that director Mimi Leder, another woman who also breaks barriers but in theaters, did not hesitate to direct the biopic that portrays the beginnings of Ginsburg as a lawyer.

The result is the compelling feature film On the Basis of Sex, in which Felicity Jones gives a masterful interpretation of the justice, especially in the hard times when she tried to make herself a place in a male-dominated environment.

The human side of the heroine

Beyond the magnitude of her figure, Leder was especially attracted to the human side of the feminist heroine.

"Ginsburg is one of the most influential political figures of our time. But she is a human being, and it was very important for me and for the filmmakers to bring her humanity to light and show her as a real person", the filmmaker explained.
