Serenity: what inspired director Steven Knight?

The next great thriller you cannot miss

How does an acclaimed director come up with an idea for his next film? The creative process is absolutely random. Steven Knight, whose next release is Serenity, knows that well since the film was born when he was on a fishing boat about three years ago.

In this sense, Knight recalls: "the captain of the ship was a peculiar character. Fishermen are pretty obsessive, so I explored that character, who he was, why he was there and where he was."

A trigger that served him to take the story to a deeper level. Because, in the film, the reserved life of this captain played by Matthew McConaughey is altered by the arrival of his ex-wife, played by Anne Hathaway.

The past of this fisherman returns with requests and, now, his old love wants to link him to a ruthless crime.

Lies, deceptions and suspense

"I wanted to make a character and throw him into a world where, to begin with, he believes he is making the decisions and then, slowly, he begins to wonder if he is really making those decisions or if they are imposed on him," he says.

A non- conventional black thriller with a nod to Ernest Hemingway and Graham Green that is imposing itself as one of the most disturbing films of the year.
