The Marsh King’s Daughter tells the story of Helena Petterier, a woman who lives an ordinary life with her wonderful husband and young daughter, but hides a dark secret: her father is the infamous Marsh King, the man who kept her and her mother captive and isolated for years. When her father unexpectedly escapes from prison, her worst nightmares come to life.
Based on Kareen Dionne's award-winning, international best-selling psychological thriller, the film takes a different approach to the same character and explores different parts of the story. The script is slightly different from the book but yet very faithful. It is a thriller that delves deeper into the characters and works very well because of its unique story, with a character who is painfully torn between two different worlds, struggles with the trauma of both, and then takes steps to try to solve her situation.
The Marsh King’s Daughter features a talented cast, including Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn (To Catch a Killer), and Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound). This great story is directed by Neil Burger, who previously made Divergent, Voyagers, and TV series such as Limitless and Billions.
