Robert Rodriguez: Hypnotic

The director talks about his latest film

Hypnotic tells the story of Detective Danny Rourke, who is searching for his missing daughter. While trying to find her whereabouts, Danny must conduct an investigation into several mysterious bank robberies possibly linked to a secret government program, which defy reality and will end up questioning his slightest assumptions about everything and everyone around him.

The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez, who previously made Sin City and Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams. He is a multi-faceted professional as a film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and musician. His first film, El Mariachi, was made with only $7,000 and he was the only person on the crew.

The director wrote the screenplay for Hypnotic in 2002, a fascinating project that would take just over twenty years to reach the screen and which he considered one of his favorite stories. Inspired by the widescreen re-release of Hitchcock classic Vertigo (1958), Rodriguez immediately set out to create his own Hitchcockian thriller. The filmmaker said he wanted to achieve "a Hitchcockian thrill ride, but on steroids because I wanted it to have relentless twists and turns."

Rodriguez also confirmed that several of his family members were involved in the project, for example, his son Rebel Rodriguez was the musical composer, Racer Rodriguez was co-writer and producer, Sid Rodriguez worked on visual effects, his daughter Rhiannon worked on storyboards and finally his son Rocket was present in the post-production studio, that is, in the editing of the film.
