Anna Todd: "Tessa is one of the strongest characters I have created"

The author of After defends her protagonist against the critics

April is the key month for the fans of After, the work that first revolutionized the Wattpad digital platform, then was published on paper, and now it's on the big screen!

At a press conference, author Anna Todd tried to differentiate herself from those that brand her character Tessa as being far from female empowerment.

Todd said: "How is it that Tessa is not empowered? For making bad decisions? I know many strong women, including me, who make bad decisions all the time. I think it's unfair to say that a woman is not empowered just by making bad decisions."

In this sense, the writer believes that those who accuse her of making stereotypical female characters with a patriarchal view have not read the whole saga (which includes four books, a prequel and two spin-off). That's why she argues categorically: "Tessa is one of the strongest characters I've created."

After: a controversial and compelling love relationship

The fanfiction inspired on one of the members of the British band One Direction, Harry Styles, tells the fascinating love story between Tessa and Hardin (Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin), two literature students who live an intense and problematic romance.

The release of the year is coming soon!
