Baltasar Kormákur: "I've never made a female- driven movie”

Statements by the director of Adrift

When director Baltasar Kormákur read the first script of Adrift he was captivated by the real story of a couple going through one of the worst storms in history and their return to the mainland. He immediately thought of actress Shailene Woodley to play the role of Tami Oldham. "I had never made a female- driven movie and I liked the idea of a strong young woman being the heroine of the story. I thought Shailene was perfect for the role," recalls Kormákur.

Oldham’s courage and determination will be the support to return for Richard Sharp (played by Sam Claflin). On the link between the protagonists, the director said: "I thought the love story was very powerful, especially because of the way it was told in the script. I was hoping to make a dramatic romance, to explore the intrinsic strength of true love in a unique way," concludes Kormákur.
