Anatomy of a Fall received five Oscar Nominations

We tell you all about the awards season

Anatomy of a Fall tells the story of a woman who is suspected of murdering her husband. Their blind son is the only witness and finds himself in a complex dilemma when it comes to cooperating with the investigation.

From this synopsis, we can tell why the film earned a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. One of the aims of the movie is to depict the wear and tear of a couple through this disturbing crime. But another main objective is to portray the physical and emotional deterioration of a body in a technical way as a symbol of the deterioration of a love story. Even though the film is not an adaptation of a true story, it is full of legal details. In order to achieve the feeling of a true case, extensive research was conducted, and numerous experts were consulted.

The film received its deserved recognition in the Best Editing and Best Direction categories. Director Justine Triet thought of this story as a prolonged interrogation, with scenes ranging from the couple's home to the courtroom, where the characters face constant questioning. She also used a documentary style in both narration and photography to give this story a unique feel. To delve into the complexities of the story, and evoke a range of emotions in the audience, she resorted to the absence of additional music and a stark, unadorned tone.

Finally, actress Sandra Hüller, who is also part of another Oscar-nominated film, The Zone of Interest, is in the Best Actress category for her performance in Anatomy of a Fall. Her challenge was to portray a liberal woman, judged by her sexuality, her career, and her motherhood. Sandra did an amazing job bringing complexity and depth to the character, telling the story with conviction and authenticity.

Anatomy of a Fall is now available in theatres in Latin America.
