Wildflower: inspired by real events

Learn more about this charming film!

Wildflower is a film about the transition to adulthood and follows Bea Johnson's life from birth to graduation as she navigates life with two parents with intellectual disabilities and a family that can't agree on how best to help her. In addition, Bea is finishing high school and has a chance to go to college, but she is doubtful... will her parents be able to manage on their own or will she have to stay behind to take care of them?

The film is inspired by a short film made by Christina, the director's niece. The piece, which highlighted Christina's experiences of caring for her neurodivergent parents, was made into an acclaimed feature-length documentary in 2020. The movie focuses primarily on the pure love of laughter to show a different side of a story centered on a family with a disability. It is a multi-generational family comedy that pays tribute to overcoming life's obstacles, no matter how difficult they may be.

Matt Smulker began his career directing short films, commercials, and music videos for clients such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Reebok, and 20th Century Fox. A filmmaker whose work focuses on the human aspect and his stories feel relatable and honest. The connections between characters are often reduced to their simplest, almost purely visual components, even in his dialogue-based works. The result is a visual experience that is felt, not just seen or heard.

Wildflower features a talented cast including Alexandra Daddario (Songbird; Can You Keep a Secret?), Kiernan Shipka, Jean Smart, Reid Scott, Jacki Weaver, Brad Garrett, and Charlie Plummer (Moonfall; All the Money in the World). This moving film will hit theatres in Latin America later this year.
