Gus Van Sant: “it was great making this movie after a long time”

Statements by the director of Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot

The processes that allow making a film can sometimes be long but with a truly fascinating result. This was the case of Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot, the new film by director Gus Van Sant, who had constant comings and goings in his production.

When talking to the media, the director said: "I think it was great to do it after a long time, 20 years thinking about it. I think any representation can be different, depending on when you do it, because in this case it took a lot of time. But we achieved an interesting result."

The passage of time also played against the choice of the protagonist. "Originally it was going to be Robin Williams, but I think Joaquin (Phoenix) was the next person I thought of as soon as I realized we could not do it with Robin, because he was not with us anymore," the filmmaker said.

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot. A story of self-improvement

John Callahan’s life (Phoenix) changes drastically after a car accident left him in wheelchairs. How to continue after such a traumatic situation? Immerse in alcohol and depression, everything seems to change when he begins to draw sarcastic cartoons.

An inspiring true story!
