Joaquin Phoenix is going to star in one of the roles that will mark his career: he will give life to the famous cartoonist John Callahan in the film Do not Worry, He Will not Get Far On Foot, by director Gus Van Sant.
On the challenge of playing a person who existed in life real, Phoenix said: "I wanted to do it in the most personal way. I tried to navigate in that space between character and authenticity". And true to his deconstructed style, he added: "I don’t know if we made it. It's always a damn bet" Undoubtedly, judging by what his interpretation already harvests between the critics and Callahan´s family the result is more than satisfactory. Phoenix also mentions the memories of the artist who died in 2010 as the pillar on which he sustained his work: "Everything was because of his book. I read it many times. He was so honest, so personal".
A different view
Phoenix adheres to the idea that the film about the controversial cartoonist that used his drawings as a way to get rid of his addictions and sorrows is much more than the classic film of overcoming. "Yes, I think it's a hopeful movie. When John begins with his self-discovery, his creativity blossoms" he finishes.
