The Greatest of Cinema: Luc Besson

Let's take a look back at his career

Luc Besson was born on 18 March 1959 in Paris. The son of marine instructors, he lived a nomadic life between different countries such as Italy, Yugoslavia, and Greece. He wanted to become a marine biologist, however, he became interested in photography due to recurrent travels in Europe.

From 1977, Luc worked as an assistant director and editor on Gaumont productions. He was encouraged to make several short films and took part in some commercials and video clips as a producer. He finally made his directorial debut in 1982 with the film Kamikaze 1999, an apocalyptic drama without dialogue. From then on, he made one successful film after another, including The Big Blue, Nikita, and Léon, the Professional.

Luc Besson's filmography stands out for the action and violent scenes, some exaggerated details to shock the viewer, and a certain play with verisimilitude. Let's find out a little more about his latest projects:

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets: a film based on the revolutionary and wonderful French graphic novel. The film follows Valerian, a time-traveling agent sent with his partner to investigate a galactic empire.

Next year, we’ll get the chance to enjoy Dogman, a film that explores the story of a young man with a difficult life, who finds salvation through the love of his dogs. The film also features a wonderful cast: Caleb Landry Jones, Jojo T. Gibbs, Christopher Denham, and Clemens Schick.
