May December’s success at the Golden Globes 2024

We tell you all about one of the nominated films

May December follows a young actress who meets the woman she will play in the movie that delves into a story that happened twenty years ago, in which a woman was sentenced to prison for having an affair with a thirteen-year-old boy, whom she later married and raised a family.

The nominees for the 81st edition of the Golden Globes were announced last week and May December, directed by Todd Haynes, earned four nominations. The selected performers were Natalie Portman (Jackie) for Best Actress, Julianne Moore (Still Alice; A Single Man) for Supporting Actress and Charles Melton for Best Supporting Actor. May December was nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy as well.

The film is inspired by the troubled story of Vili Fualaau, who was only twelve years old, and Mary Kay Letourneau, her teacher. The scandal erupted in a quiet community south of the U.S. city of Seattle in 1996. Letourneau was a married woman with four children and always said she never thought she was doing anything illegal by entering a relationship with a student. She became pregnant, had two children with Vili and later, the two married.

Do you want to know a little more about this film? May December will hit theaters in Latin America in January 2024.
