World Hearing Day

On this special day, we remember the beautiful story of CODA

Today marks World Hearing Day! This particular date aims to highlight the importance of early detection and intervention for hearing loss.

It was established by the World Health Organization and the purpose is to deepen prevention and treatment strategies when a person cannot hear properly.

This year the theme is "To hear for life, listen with care." The phrase is intended to stress the importance of safe listening so as not to expose the ear to loud noises, one of the possible causes of hearing loss.

CODA, the remake of the successful French film La Famille Bélier, is a nice way to raise awareness about early detection of hearing loss or deafness. This film tells the story of Ruby (Emilia Jones), who is the only hearing daughter in a deaf family and dreams of becoming a singer. It is a film that makes visible the life of a person with hearing difficulties and shows how she interacts with her family, friends, and the rest of the world.

The touching comedy directed by Sian Heder, writer and director of Orange is the New Black, invites us to reflect on the details surrounding a deaf person. On a day like today, through this film, we highlight the importance of early detection of hearing loss so that, the sooner there is a diagnosis and treatment, the better results will be seen in rehabilitation, in the development of communication and inclusion in society.

Stay tuned!
