The Cannes Film Festival will not be held online

The organization ruled out the option of transmitting it over the Internet

The pandemic has generated inconveniences and cancellations all over the world.

Many industries and sectors of the economy are evaluating how to face a completely new situation that requires a great deal of creativity and inventiveness to overcome it.

Many face-to-face meetings have chosen to use digital channels to avoid direct contact between people, but this does not seem to be the path chosen by the organization of the classic Cannes Festival.

Cannes must wait

Originally dated in May and with director Spike Lee as president of the jury, the organizers of the event do not rule out tentative dates for the end of June or even July.

The decision of not doing it online is to safeguard the spirit of Cannes. “For Cannes, its soul, its history, it’s a model that wouldn’t work. What is a digital festival? We should start by asking rights holders if they agree,” said Thierry Fremaux, responsible for the event.

A fact to keep in mind: summer is coming to the northern hemisphere and higher temperatures would be a great relief to fight against the virus.

We’ll have to wait!
