Maya's life changes completely in Second Act, from working in a store in the suburbs of New York to (by means of confusion) being an executive of a major company. Jennifer Lopez talks about this and much more in an exclusive dialogue.
The actress says on the film: "I loved this idea of being able, on each new day, to have the opportunity to achieve what you want and the only thing that stops you is yourself. You just have to make the decision."
The overcoming of fears and finding courage is what she sees in Maya: "I love this character. Obviously, I felt extremely connected with her. She comes from the suburbs of New York. I grew up in the Bronx. She is a girl from the Queens. She does not have the academic training, but she has talent and motivation," she said.
This relation between her character and her life makes it inevitable for the actress to be a source of inspiration for many Latinos. In this sense, she says that: "People need to know that there is not only one way to achieve success. There are many, many different ways. When I started I didn’t know anyone who was in the show business. There simply was not an entrance door, but one must find its own way. You can make it!"
