All the Money in the World according to Ridley Scott

The director is living a great moment

Tireless in his young 80 years, British director Ridley Scott enjoys a great moment. He has in his hands his most recent creation: All the Money in the World.

A real life case

To the despair of his devoted mother, on the dawn of July 10, 1973, Italian teenager John Paul Getty III was kidnapped.

His grandfather was J. Paul Getty, famous maker of an oil empire, who carried the legend of being a man radically greedy, and who considered paying the ransom only when he received the presumed ear of his grandson.

The character’s complexity

"Getty became famous for the money, but then he became despicable when he refused to pay the ransom. People thought in a somewhat simplistic way: What a bad guy ...!" says Scott about his controversial character. "But it was more complex. And it's that complexity that fascinated me," he says, adding:" When Getty talks to the press and they ask him how much he will pay to free his grandson and he replies that nothing, in fact, he is speaking to the kidnappers. He was negotiating."

A must-see film that delves like no other into family relationships, compassion and the power of money.
